Srinivasan Iyer holds an M Phil in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. Mr Iyer has worked for more than two decades on development and poverty reduction. In the late 80s, he co-founded an NGO working with poor, marginalised communities in central India on food security, sustainable natural resource management and empowerment. Over the 90s, he worked on developing capacities of NGOs, government officials and community leaders on sustainable development. Since 2000, he has worked with leading international NGOs, DFID and the UNDP. He has worked in several states in India and in Nigeria, as well as with bilateral and multilateral development agencies. Iyer’s areas of expertise also include work on policy and projects in areas of natural resource. In these capacities, he has been actively engaged in direct implementation of watershed management projects as also policy issues of MGNREGS, strengthening decentralised governance, community-led development and integrated natural resource management. He is currently Assistant Country Director, UNDP India, heading the Energy and Environment Unit.
